Target Group(s): The direct beneficiaries of this program are the youth, women and PWDs within Migadde community, Wakiso district and the neighboring communities.
Project summery
According to the mapping report, government programs were identified with activities related to technical work at regional/ district levels in Uganda. Youth sustainable vocational, training skills and empowerment interventions can be increased through collaboration of the existing organizations with Government in order to scale up the interventions at community level.
The categories of young people who need vocational skills interventions are those who are orphans, especially related to the HIV/AIDS, Conflicts/wars, Politics, unemployed, uneducated, and among others.
Related to that, the COVID-19 pandemic has gripped the entire world, with more than 22 million cases reported. The social and economic effects of COVID-19 are being felt with greater intensity across least developed, developing and emerging market economies irrespective of their income level. Most of them will experience a drop in the GDP and losses in employment and income leading to greater poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition. Concurrently, capacities and resources vary across the world to overcome this pandemic and its intertwined health, social and economic impacts.
Youths are in dire need of basic needs and supplementary benefits as Ugandans. These service points can hence be used to create opportunities to the target group who are in and out schools, tertiary and universities.
In the project are, nearly a half of the safety cases, drug practitioners, induced abortion, poor parenting occurred and unemployment among the youths aged 10-35 years. A third of the national population is made of young people and also more than a half of manpower to most sectors are of youths; therefore the need for action to control the above crises has never been more agent than now in the country.
Right now, we are putting much emphasis on jobs skills development and vocational training for the needy youth and women and PWD’s from communities in Migadde. We have already started with training in tailoring and weaving and many youth and women have enrolled for the training. This has now necessitated us to secure more training equipment, machinery and materials so that each person will have access to an equipment/ machine and material for practical lessons. This is meant in the empowerment of the youth and women with skills which they can use for securing employments or setting up their own economic activities.
The project which funds are being sought is the expansion of the existing vocation training project. The organization set up the training of poor, needy youth, women and vulnerable children in vocations meant to provide them knowledge and skills in tailoring and weaving which have so far been put in place. We are also planning to set up other courses after securing enough funding. The training in tailoring and weaving are meant to help the target group in securing skills that they will use for securing employment or starting their own economic activities. By so doing, the trainees will be able to support themselves using the knowledge and skills attained from the training.
We are seeking funds for procurement of more vocational training equipment, Machinery and materials needed in the expansion of the vocational training project. The number of those registered for the training has now increased to 120 and yet the equipment and materials that we have are not enough for all of them to use during the practical lessons. This has now necessitated us to procure more.
The Organization’s overall mission is to empower the target group to become self reliant by the use of knowledge and skills attained from the training programs. The training project is a tool that is used to help the Organization in achieving its overall mission of empowerment of the targeted group. This is how this project supports our organization’s overall mission.
